T agree with Queen Elizabeth, and then WILLIAM as our "head of State'. I really object to Charles or anyone remotely connected to Camilla being in at way connected.

Dear Freedom Rider,

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I understand that a country can be both a republic and member of the Commonwealth (India, for example), but I think that the people advocating Canada become a republic want to get rid of the Queen altogether. As I mentioned, though, I really don't have a strong opinion on the matter. I suppose I don't have a real problem with the Queen becoming our "head of state" if she's just a mere figurehead, but I can understand the arguments for ditching the monarchy altogether.

Some interesting arguments, nicely laid out here! But you seem to think that Canada cannot be both a republic and a continuing member of the Commonwealth at the same time. In fact, the great majority of Commonwealth member countries today are republics --- a status that was first pioneered by India, many years ago now. See, e.g.:
Commonwealth’s 60th anniversary summit in Trinidad … still “an old boys club headed by an old lady”?
