Yes, I understand that a country can be both a republic and member of the Commonwealth (India, for example), but I think that the people advocating Canada become a republic want to get rid of the Queen altogether. As I mentioned, though, I really don't have a strong opinion on the matter. I suppose I don't have a real problem with the Queen becoming our "head of state" if she's just a mere figurehead, but I can understand the arguments for ditching the monarchy altogether.
